Udinese ended their crisis in style by dominating Milan 2-1 with goals from Giampiero Pinzi and Emmanuel Badu.
The Rossoneri dropped Mattia Destro again to give Giampaolo Pazzini a rare start, missing Alex, Stephan El Shaarawy, Riccardo Montolivo, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari. The hosts were in crisis after one win from 11 rounds and learned Antonio Di Natale would likely be leaving at the end of the season. Bruno Fernandes was suspended with Thomas Heurtaux and Molla Wague injured.
The Friulani unveiled a new shirt that was a hybrid between their usual jersey and that of Handball team Pallamano Rovereto, who share a sponsor.
Within 43 seconds Di Natale had forced Diego Lopez into a save at the near post, then the corner flashed across the face of goal to whistle past the back stick. Alexandre Geijo horribly scuffed his finish when sent clear by Di Natale and Emmanuel Badu’s effort was charged down.
Silvan Widmer nodded just wide from a corner and Marco van Ginkel ballooned well off target in a rare Milan chance.
It was mostly Udinese and Widmer was inches away from an opener with his header flashing across the face of goal from another corner. Danilo knocked down a cross for Guilherme’s half-volley again just over the bar, Udinese’s 13th shot on goal of the first half.
Luca Antonelli had the ball in the net on the stroke of half-time, but play was halted for a push on Widmer.
Gabriel Paletta went off with a bruised knee and Di Natale blasted over, but Udinese finally took a deserved lead on the hour mark. A Di Natale corner was flicked on for the totally unmarked Giampiero Pinzi, who drilled home from 14 yards.
Milan failed to mount much of a fightback and the Friulani made it 2-0 with Emmanuel Badu. The Ghana international came sliding in to meet Guilherme’s pass from six yards after the initial Di Natale strike was only parried by Diego Lopez. It was a fine way to celebrate his 100th Serie A game.
Bizarrely, Milan only got their first corner of the game after 87 minutes and promptly scored from it, as Alessio Cerci’s cross found a Giampaolo Pazzini header from six yards.
