Cagliari and Parma failed to find the back of the net at the Stadio Sant’Elia.
Davide Ballardini got his first win on the Sardinian bench in last week’s surprise 1-0 away to Catania, but had long-term absentees Nene, Davide Astori, Moustapha El Kabir and Sebastian Eriksson on the treatment table. Parma had lost their last three consecutive away games.
Sergio Floccari’s early angled drive tested Michael Agazzi, while Michele Canini’s desperate sliding tackle stopped Sebastian Giovinco tapping in a Jonathan Biabiany cross from the right.
Bad news for Parma, as guiding light Giovinco picked up a muscular problem while taking a free kick after just 20 minutes, making way for Raffaele Palladino. Cagliari also lost captain Daniele Conti moments later.
An Agostini left-foot volley sailed over, but before half-time Joaquin Larrivey ran on to a long Andrea Cossu ball, his angled drive shaving a coat of paint off the far post. Stefano Morrone also threatened with a header just wide.
The second half was fairly uneventful, Lorenzo Ariaudo nodding off target and Davide Biondini’s fresh-air shot.
Antonio Mirante got down to beat away a Cossu screamer from distance, while Thiago Ribeiro was offside on the tap-in.
With the last kick of the game, a free kick was floated into the area for Daniele Galloppa’s header to skim the frame of the goal for Parma.
