The local Emilia-Romagna derby ended goalless, although it wasn’t through want of Alessandro Diamanti trying.
There was little to play for other than local pride here, as Cesena are practically relegated already and Bologna are relatively comfortable in mid-table. The Rossoblu needed to get back on track after a surprise 3-1 home defeat to Palermo last week.
Adrian Mutu and Daniel Pudil sat out bans, joining the injured Marco Parolo, Roberto Guana, Jorge Martinez, Alex Calderoni and Vincenzo Iaquinta. Bologna missed Gyorgy Garics, Crespo, Antonsson, Rene Krhin and Casarini.
Dominique Malonga was originally in the Cesena line-up, but was replaced by Simone Del Nero after a problem in the warm-up.
Alessandro Diamanti had a couple of long-range shots that skimmed the frame of the goal, while Francesco Antonioli rushed off his line to close down Marco Di Vaio from another Diamanti assist.
In the second half Jean-Francois Gillet had to parry a Martinho snapshot, Antonioli beat away a Nico Pulzetti attempt and Diamanti again tried several times from every angle.
Gianluca Comotto had a great chance for Cesena at the 86th minute only to scuff his shot when teammate Filippi was in a better position.
Moments later it was Bologna’s time to waste a wonderful scoring opportunity, Panagiotis Kone’s header wide from Robert Aquafresca’s assist.
