With only nine games left and a three-point divide, will Daniele De Rossi and his Roma ruin the Champions League dream of Thiago Motta’s Bologna?

The Giallorossi have been in flying form since the dismissal of Jose Mourinho and arrival of De Rossi back in January; the team have won seven of their nine league outings under the guidance of the 2006 World Cup winner, drawing one and losing to just Serie A champions elect Inter.

Whilst much has been written about De Rossi’s shining start and Roma’s uptick in form, their results have been exactly the same as Bologna’s work over the last two months – Thiago Motta’s side have also won seven, drawn once and lost once in their last nine Serie A games.

The comparisons don’t stop there, as both clubs have also produced a goal difference of +12 in this time, with Roma scoring and conceding four more than Bologna. As such, the two teams seem on equal footing approaching the business end of the season.

Sitting just three points behind, the Giallorossi are now desperate to return to the Champions League for the first time in years, hoping to spoil the party in Emilia-Romagna, and their fight looks set to go down to the wire. Their head-to-head clash on April 20th could ultimately prove decisive.
