Influential Inter director Beppe Marotta made a surprise announcement on Saturday, revealing that he will leave his position at the end of his contract in 2027 in order to focus on working with younger players.

The Inter CEO, who also spent eight years in the same position with Juventus between 2010 and 2018, announced that he will step down in 2027. Given that he was appointed in 2019, he will have spent the same amount of time as CEO of both Inter and Juventus.

“When my contract with Inter ends, I will step down to focus on the youth,” Marotta said during a talk at the Sala Montanari in Varese, reported via Tuttosport along with several other outlets.

“The youth sector is the greatest asset of any club. I am increasingly convinced that making young people pay for sport is wrong. It should be free. That way, it becomes accessible for poorer families as well, and that is often where the hidden gems are found,” Marotta added.

It has been suggested that Marotta will not work for another Serie A club in the immediate future, but will remain involved in sport, specialising, of course, in football.

Inter still have three full seasons after the current campaign before Marotta’s contract is set to expire.

Under Marotta’s stewardship, Inter lifted their first Serie A title in 11 years in 2020-21, and also reached the Champions League final for the first time since 2010 last season.

  1. In three years many things can change. Maybe new Inter ownership with big pockets who can pay more and maybe give him an equity position to stay on!
