Former Juventus striker Alen Boksic urges the Old Lady to sign Luka Modric on a free transfer from Real Madrid and believes Dusan Vlahovic can become as strong as Erling Haaland given that scoring goals in Serie A is ‘more difficult’ than in the Premier League.

Former Juventus striker Boksic feels Juventus should sign his compatriot Modric on a free transfer in June.

The contract of the Croatian star expires in June 2024 and he has yet to agree on a new deal with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

“Modric is kissed by God, he is football,” Boksic told Gazzetta.

“I’d tell any top club to sign him, including Juventus. I don’t know if he’ll leave Real Madrid, but I am convinced he has two years of high-level football in his legs. Modric alone would not be enough to close the gap with Inter, who won the title with merit, but he’d surely help.”

Juventus have qualified for the Coppa Italia Final after beating Lazio 3-2 on aggregate in the semis, but Boksic is not impressed by the Old Lady’s results and performances this season.

“I am happy for Juventus, but I am sorry for Lazio and my friend Igor Tudor, who I will meet on Saturday at the Olimpico for a game against Hellas Verona,” said Boksic.

“You expect Juventus to fight for the title until the end of every season, but the race ended in February this year after the game with Inter. From that moment, Juventus were not up to the task too often.”

Dusan Vlahovic is Juventus’ best scorer this season with 17 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions and Boksic believes the ex-Fiorentina star has ample room for improvement.

“He is an excellent striker and is only 24. He has proved to be of high quality at Fiorentina and Juventus,” he said.

“Dusan can become a top striker like Haaland, but I don’t like comparisons. However, it is more difficult to score goals in Italy than in England.

“A striker always depends on his teammates,” the former Croatia international continued.

“I used to play with Zidane, Jugovic, Deschamps, Conte, Del Piero and Vieri. Dusan plays in a more defensive Juventus, and they struggle more to create goal-scoring opportunities.”

Boksic scored 34 goals in 137 Serie A appearances during his playing career. He spent one season at Juventus, scoring seven goals in 33 matches in 1996-97 before joining Lazio where he remained for three years.
