Chelsea and Bologna youngsters Cesare Casadei and Giovanni Fabbian were both on the scoresheet as the Italy under-21 side rose to a 2-0 victory over Latvia in qualification for the 2025 U21 European Championships.

Casadei opened the scoring for the Azzurrini with an acrobatic effort following a neat ball into the area from full-back Mattia Zanotti. That was Casadei’s first goal for at U21 level, having scored eight from nine appearances with the U20s.

Captain on the night, Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto almost doubled the young Italy side’s advantage two minutes after Casadei’s opener.

The Azzurrini had several chances to extend their lead over Latvia, but Fabbian eventually struck 11 minutes from time after the ball fell kindly for him in the box.

The Italy U21 side will be back in action again on Tuesday evening when they face Turkey in the next Euro qualifier.
