Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has informed the club of his desire to leave at the end of the 2023-24 season, much to the excitement of Juventus and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, but one particular team in the Premier League could throw a spanner into the works for the Old Lady according to reports on Friday morning.

Koopmeiners told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he has informed Atalanta of his desire to leave and that he “is enjoying life in Italy, but would endure the rain for some clubs in England.”

The Dutchman also revealed that he was aware of interest from Juventus, but admitted that nothing is concrete at this stage of proceedings.

Where next for Koopmeiners

Koopmeiners featured on all of the front pages of Italy’s major sport newspapers on Friday morning, with Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport both reporting that Juventus are the most excited by Thursday’s news.

Multiple outlets in Italy suggest that it will cost somewhere in the region of €60m to sign Koopmeiners from Atalanta.

Juventus reportedly have €40m set aside for new signings this summer, but are also expecting to add to that budget with the sales of some of its current first teamers and younger prospects, including the likes of Matias Soule, Enzo Barrenechea and potentially Roma loanee Dean Huijsen.

Some of the aforementioned players could also be involved in a player-plus-cash exchange with Atalanta according to Friday’s reports.

However, there are also several clubs from the Premier League who could be of interest to Koopmeiners, and who could potentially pay Atalnta their asking price up front and in full.

Recent reports suggested that Manchester United and Tottenham have been monitoring the 26-year-old over the course of this season.

However, according to multiple sources, Liverpool are the Premier League side who Juventus need to be most wary of during the summer transfer window.
