According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi changed his mind and will stay at Barcelona next season, creating a knock-on effect for Milan and Roberto De Zerbi.

The coach had announced earlier this term that he would be walking away as soon as the campaign had concluded, but since then put together a string of good results and performances.

There was a crisis meeting this evening at President Joan Laporta’s home and Mundo Deportivo claim that it proved successful, changing Xavi’s mind so he will remain at Camp Nou for the 2024-25 season.

Xavi had been one of the many candidates mentioned in the frame for the Milan job, as Stefano Pioli will be dismissed this summer.

It also means that Barcelona are no longer on the lookout for a new coach, as Brighton and Hove Albion’s Italian tactician De Zerbi had been floated for the role to replace Xavi.

There had been concern at the idea of Xavi leaving Barcelona, having spent most of his playing career at the club.
