Atalanta have been handed a blow for the season run-in with the news that defender Daniele Capelli has suffered another serious injury.

The influential centre-back hasn’t played for the Bergamo outfit since injuring the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in late November.

Whilst surgery on that had initially ruled the 25-year-old out for the entire season, he was set for a return to playing action in record time by the end of April, having recently resumed training.

Whilst surgery on that had initially ruled the 25-year-old out for the entire season, he was set for a return to playing action in record time by the end of April, having recently resumed training.

However, at the end of Tuesday’s session with his teammates, Capelli suffered an injury to the same knee, this time breaking the patella – the bone at the top of the knee.

The unlucky No 4 will be operated on during the course of Thursday and is set to be ruled out for a number of months.

The Orobici are currently 12th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.
