Europa League Gp E, Matchday 4 - 5/11/09 (18.05 UK)
Roma 2-1 Fulham
Kamara pen 18 (F), Riise 69 (R), Okaka 76 (R)
Stadio Olimpico

Roma fought back to beat nine-man Fulham 2-1 with John Arne Riise and Stefano Okaka.

When these sides met at Craven Cottage, it ended 1-1 with a last-gasp Marco Andreolli goal after Jeremy Menez missed a penalty. Andreolli started this time round as Juan and Nicolas Burdisso were injured, while Francesco Totti and Mirko Vucinic were also sidelined. Fulham's Stephen Kelly sits out a ban with the injured Andrew Johnson, Danny Murphy and Damien Duff.

Bjorn Helge Riise's shot was charged down early on and Daniele De Rossi just failed to get on the end of a corner at the back post.

There was bad news for the Giallorossi when Andreolli mistimed his tackle on Kamara and the penalty was inevitable. The former Modena man got back up to convert, sending Alexander Doni the wrong way.

Roma were very unlucky not to equalise when Philippe Mexes rose to nod a Cicinho cross inches wide of the far post.

Mark Schwarzer flapped a cross off Julio Baptista's head and got it under control before De Rossi could pounce. However, Kamara sparked a counter that Clint Dempsey failed to finalise when clear on goal, as he hesitated in the box.

Baptista attempted an audacious overhead kick, while Kamara headed a Konchesky cross wide of the far post. Roma wasted a golden opportunity when David Pizarro's snapshot from the D was ready to beat Schwarzer, but Okaka got in the way!

Okaka sprinted away from Hangeland and Konchesky used his body to block the shot from 10 yards. From that corner Roma demanded a penalty for a handling offence and replays show it definitely hit Pantsil's arm, which was somewhat outstretched. The referee and his extra assistants opted to wave play on.

Okaka nodded another Pizarro cross wide, but on the counter Dempsey flashed a shot across the face of goal with Andreolli again late. Doni pulled up during a goal kick and there are fears he may have aggravated the injury that kept him out for six months and he made way for Julio Sergio in the second half. Rodrigo Taddei also replaced Cicinho and Kamara came off for Erik Nevland.

It proved to be a terrible substitution, as within four minutes Nevland had been sent off! He went in late from behind to clip the back of De Rossi's ankles, which UEFA considers to be a dangerous tackle. Fulham also went down to 10 men in the first leg.

Taddei's blockbuster from over 20 metres flew just over the bar, then Baptista volleyed on to the side-netting with the inside of his right foot. Roma were suddenly boosted in their confidence and Cassetti nodded a corner inches wide of the back post.

Schwarzer palmed a Guberti snapshot out from under the bar, but Baptista fired a timid effort straight at the goalkeeper. The game was now played in Fulham's final third, but Baptista turned a shot and header wide.

Jeremy Menez replaced Guberti, but it was John Arne Riise who drew Roma level. A corner came out to the edge of the box where his screamer took a double deflection off Fulham players to leave Schwarzer stranded.

Schwarzer fingertipped a De Rossi blockbuster over the bar, but when the referee awarded a goal kick and the Roma captain complained, he was booked.

Roma turned the game around completely with teenager Okaka on 76 minutes. Taddei whipped in a cross from the right for Okaka's towering header from six yards, his third goal in five Europa League games.

Baird came on and almost immediately had to clear a Menez strike off the line after Schwarzer had completely misjudged his punch to deny Okaka.

Baptista flicked up a loose ball for Okaka's spectacular overhead kick, which the goalkeeper caught on the line. However, at the 88th Fulham had a series of shots in the box that were charged down by various body parts and eventually scrambled clear.

Menez blasted over and Fulham ended the game with nine men, as Konchesky was shown a straight red card for a late tackle from behind on Taddei. Again, it seemed rather harsh.
