Domenico Criscito impressed in Italy's win over Spain and said “we had to put in the perfect performance.”
The Azzurri emerged 2-1 winners from Wednesday night's high-profile international friendly thanks to Riccardo Montolivo and Alberto Aquilani goals.
“I'm happy to have put in a good performance, as did the whole team, against the world champions,” said Criscito.
“Spain always keep the ball to feet and never give it away, but we prepared well. We put in a perfect game plan and that's the only way to beat Spain.
“You have to be constantly concentrated, as they have such quality players that they can find that moment of magic at any time to turn the game.
“We knew down my flank Spain tended not to come back into defence as much, so we planned to attack them there and it went well.”
Criscito left Genoa this summer for a new experience in the Russian League with Luciano Spalletti's Zenit.
“It's very warm in St. Petersburg right now! Coach Spalletti wanted me and I am happy with this experience at Zenit.”
