Roberto Donadoni has thanked the Cagliari fans for their reaction to his shock dismissal. “I'll always have them in my heart.”
The Coach was sacked on Friday night, two weeks before the Serie A season kicks off, and there is still no official replacement.
Supporters are planning protests in front of the club headquarters and numerous Facebook pages have sprung up on this issue.
“Cagliari is a marvellous city. I will always have the affection of the people in my heart,” replied Donadoni.
“I will have an opportunity to thank them all personally in the next few days.”
This suggests the Coach will release his own statement soon to explain what happened at the club.
The reasons behind the dismissal are not clear, but it's reported Donadoni backed David Suazo during the failed move last week.
Suazo was on trial and declined to sign the contract proposed to him. When the striker aimed to show his faith in Cagliari by putting pen to paper on a blank deal, President Massimo Cellino still told him to leave. Suazo has now joined Catania.
