Coach Gianluca Atzori raged against his squad after Sampdoria were knocked out of the Coppa Italia.
The Blucerchiati entered the competition at the Third Round and immediately crashed out with a 2-1 defeat to Empoli last night.
“In football a defeat can happen, but the way you step on to the field and the attitude you take is crucial,” said the tactician.
“We need to do a lot more work on our minds. We are a team packed with talent and quality, as we can boast many internationals, but evidently I still haven't been able to change Sampdoria's mentality.
“I am very sorry for the fans, who as always follow us with affection, and I hope we can prepare better for the first round of the Serie B season.
“Clearly I cannot perform miracles, but I want these players to understand they are part of Sampdoria. It is their duty to play with heart, soul and focus.”
