Luis Enrique will “not be affected” by pressure to field Francesco Totti in Roma's Europa League game. “I choose who I feel is ready.”
The Giallorossi lost the first leg 1-0 to Slovan Bratislava after dropping captain Totti and Marco Borriello, but won't bow under pressure for Thursday's decider.
“I choose who I feel is ready and I won't change my system,” said Enrique. “There has been a lot of talk, but I will not let myself be affected. Against Slovan I'll field the starting XI that I consider is best for this match.
“I don't read the newspapers. I have an objective to achieve and, even though I realise those who don't play cannot be happy, none of the players complained.
“Should Totti be treated differently? I have three children and treat them all equally. I watch the training sessions and make my judgment based on that. This is how I decide.”
Borriello played for the final 15 minutes of the first leg, which means he is cup-tied and therefore more difficult to sell this summer.
“I knew Marco was on the market, but he was at my disposal and so I played him,” continued the Spanish Coach.
“He is a player I expect a great deal from. I want to see the team attack from the start, tries to impose its football and turn the tie around. It's true we have struggled to score goals so far this summer, but we are working on it.”
