A bizarre scandal has shaken Bari, as Salvatore Masiello is set to be sold after he threw a plate at a teammate, who required 50 stitches.
29-year-old Masiello hurled the china plate during a row in the lunch hall the day before a Coppa Italia game against Avellino.
It struck 19-year-old Alessandro Crescenzi and left a deep cut in his arm, which required 50 stitches to stop the bleeding.
“Masiello did throw the plate, but Crescenzi got in the middle. Apparently the object was meant to hit goalkeeper Zdenek Zlamal,” explained Bari director of sport Claudio Garzelli.
“The row started for silly reasons, as it seemed to be a joke that got out of hand. This is why Bari have decided to defer Masiello to the Disciplinary Commission.
“The player will officially be frozen out of the squad tomorrow. He tried to apologise and was shaken, but also realised how serious his behaviour was.”
It is likely Bari will be given permission to terminate his contract for unprofessional behaviour.
