Inter played out a thrilling 3-2 friendly defeat to Chievo in a game organised to make up for the Serie A strike.
The two top flight clubs agreed to face off at the Stadio Brianteo in Monza to keep the squads in shape during what was meant to be the opening weekend of the season.
The match took a long while to get going, as Yuto Nagatomo had the best chance with a shot that came off the crossbar. The Japanese international was making his comeback after dislocating his shoulder last month.
Diego Milito broke the deadlock at the dawn of the second half by turning in Marco Faraoni's assist.
Moments later Chievo had equalised through a Cyril Thereau daisy-cutter, then Davide Moscardelli turned the game around completely with a classic free kick.
Moscardelli netted again in stoppages with a wonderful solo effort after skipping past Faraoni and Andrea Ranocchia.
Giampaolo Pazzini pulled one back on Davide Santon's cross, but it was too late to rescue Inter from defeat.
