Palermo have contacted Fiorentina regarding the transfer status of Italian World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino.
It was believed that Genoa were in pole position to land the striker should he be sold by the Viola this summer.
However, the Rosanero have now entered the race and will try to tempt Fiorentina into a sale by offering Mauricio Pinilla as part of the deal.
Questioned on the subject, Rosanero sporting director Sean Sogliano failed to deny or confirm the reports.
"At this moment in time, Palermo consider Pinilla to be a very important player," the Stadio Barbera official noted.
"However, it's clear that anything can happen in the last few days of the transfer market. We'll see what occurs."
Pinilla, 27, is a Chilean international signed from Grossetto in 2010. In 22 Serie A games for the club, he's grabbed eight goals.
