President Igor Campedelli is very pleased with Cesena's summer spending spree. “This is the squad I wanted.”
The Sea Horses have been among the most active on the transfer market, snapping up the likes of Adrian Mutu, Eder, Antonio Candreva, Martinho, Abdel Ghezzal and Jorge Martinez.
“We decided to focus on quality more than quantity and at the end of the day were able to significantly raise the team's average level of technique,” Campedelli told the Corriere di Romagna.
“This is the Cesena squad I wanted. However, remember that our temperament will always make the difference.”
The biggest signing was Fiorentina winger Mutu, who had already been close to joining Cesena in January.
“Mutu was a sensational signing and he allowed us to strengthen the side. We decided to focus on promising young players and some experienced figures, as that's the best way to grow.”
Emanuele Giaccherini was sold to Juventus, though Marco Parolo remained despite interest from numerous clubs.
“We did a good deal with Giaccherini by keeping 50 per cent of his contract. Parolo knows full well he can still improve here and get back into the Italy squad. He really loves Cesena and was happy to stay.”
