Alberto Gilardino has confirmed today a message that was posted on his website last week is true, re-opening doubts regarding his future.
On the close of the transfer window, a statement attributed to Gilardino appeared on his personal website confirming that where he had always intended to remain at Fiorentina, he was 'saddened' by the silence from the club on the matter.
This was thought in reference to late rumours in the window of a move to Genoa, and the player's take on a possible contract extension at La Viola.
Gilardino, currently in Florence preparing with the national team for their Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia, released a statement confirming that everything that appears on his website is written by him, or with his consent.
This falls in sharp contrast to Fiorentina President Mario Cognigni and Sandro Mencucci's stated beliefs yesterday that the original statement on the player's website was not necessarily from the player himself.
Speculation has surrounded Gilardino's future at Fiorentina for the past 12 months.
