Rodrigo Palacio is hoping to celebrate his Genoa contract renewal with victory over Atalanta on Sunday.
The forward was close to joining Inter last month, but the Rossoblu rejected a €10m approach for him and extended his Marassi agreement until 2014 instead.
"I'd like to immediately give the fans something to shout about on Sunday, also to help celebrate my new contract," the Argentine noted.
"The fans have shown us great support over the summer and it's things like this which will make Genoa great."
The Marassi outfit will start the weekend's game as favourites for victory, but Palacio has total respect for newly promoted Atalanta.
"Putting the values of the two teams to one side, we have to go on to the field as if this is the game of our life," he added.
"It's important that we start the season well even if the championship will be long. We'll enjoy ourselves though."
