Aquilani not a clone for Pirlo

Alberto Aquilani has silenced comparisons between himself and Andrea Pirlo. "We're different players."

The two midfielders have swapped clubs this summer after Pirlo joined Juventus and Aquilani moved to Milan via Liverpool.

"It would be wrong to compare Pirlo and I," the Italian international stated on Wednesday afternoon. "We are two totally different players.

"Saying that, Pirlo is a great and it is an honour for myself to be likened to someone like him."

Aquilani was netted by the Italian champions after boss Massimiliano Allegri asked for a new midfielder.

"I played in a deeper role at Juventus last term," added the Roman. "But I can play on the left of a diamond or a four-man midfield."

It had looked like Aquilani would be forced to go back to Anfield this summer until Milan made a late bid for his signature.

"Every player wants to be a part of Milan," he added. "Milanello is also incredible. It offers you everything.

"Now that I am here I want to win something important as my honours' list isn't that rich. I want to re-affirm myself here.

"I've been at Milan for 10 days and I've had the time to ponder and understand that this is a glorious club, one of the most important in the world."
