Gilardino targets Viola strike

Alberto Gilardino is eager to again celebrate a goal under the Curva Fiesole after remaining with Fiorentina over the summer.

The Azzurri international was set to be sold amidst interest from Genoa, but no transfer was completed.

Speaking on his website after last night's 1-0 win for Italy over Slovenia, Gilardino is looking forward to the weekend home game against Bologna.

"We reached an important objective last night, that of qualifying for the 2012 European Championship," said the Azzurri player.

"Although I wasn't able to contribute to that on the pitch, it was a great evening as we did it in Florence.

"Now, though, I'm just concentrating on the first game of the League season on Sunday afternoon.

"I can't wait to begin the campaign and score a goal in front of the Curva Fiesole."
