Fiorentina have confirmed that contract talks with international midfielder Riccardo Montolivo have resumed.
A split seemed inevitable over the summer after the former Atalanta player refused to sign an extension to his present deal that expires in June 2012.
However, after a transfer failed to materialise, Montolivo is now considering putting pen to paper at the Stadio Franchi.
"We are working on it after a small door was opened," director Sandro Mencucci told reporters.
"There won't be an immediate solution though. That's why I ask for silence to give us time to work on a renewal.
"Our intention is to find a solution that suits Fiorentina and Montolivo. We'll see if the contract is for another two years or longer.
"There is no deadline set and it's not Fiorentina's style to give anyone an ultimatum."
Speculation suggests that the Tuscan club are ready to offer the player a contract until 2014, but the agreement will probably have a transfer rescission clause inserted into it.
