Di Francesco ready for debut

Eusebio Di Francesco is preparing for his Serie A debut for Lecce against Udinese. “There is excitement, but we want to win.”

The former Roma and Italy midfielder has only recently begun his management career, taking control of Lanciano in Lega Pro and Serie B side Pescara.

“It is my Serie A debut as a Coach and I hope things go well. It is a great opportunity for me and there is excitement, but also positive sensations. We want to win.”

Di Francesco has taken his tactical approach from ex-Roma boss Zdenek Zeman with a very attacking 4-3-3 system.

There have been teething problems, including a Coppa Italia exit, and they face counter-attack specialists Udinese on Sunday afternoon.

“We still have to work on some areas, but mustn't lack grit and determination. I expect more progress and a good performance, bringing the same approach to every game in every arena.

“Udinese could have the upper hand physically, as they started their season earlier to prepare for the Champions League play-off against Arsenal, plus their players can make the difference.

“I'm good friends with Antonio Di Natale, so I'd prefer to have a beer with him rather than play against his side. Having said that, we will go out there to win.”

Cristian Pasquato is unavailable for this match, as he is still suffering from an injury sustained while he was at Juventus.

Francesco Benassi is suspended, while Ruben Olivera, Moris Carrozzieri and Rodney Strasser are also absent.
