Rossi: 'Why I turned down Palermo'

Delio Rossi reveals why he opted to turn down a new offer from Palermo. “I would've represented the past.”

The tactician was fired and re-hired during last season before his contract expired, but when replacement Stefano Pioli was sacked, President Maurizio Zamparini looked for a reunion.

“Zamparini called me and I was pleased to hear from him,” confessed Rossi on Radio Deejay.

“He wanted to bring me back to Palermo, but now there simply aren't the conditions to make that happen, because I'd left so recently.

“Looking at the transfer campaign that was in opposition to the approach we had taken before, I would've represented the past. I would not have been in the right place.”

Instead, Zamparini promoted youth team Coach Devis Mangia and he'll take control in Sunday evening's Serie A opener against Inter.

It is not yet clear if Mangia will be a permanent figure or just a stop-gap solution, as Pioli was sacked days before the start of the season.
