Palermo have revealed that they made an approach for now Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini this summer.
The Rosanero were looking for a Delio Rossi replacement and the former Genoa man was considered before the Sicilian outfit hired Stefano Pioli instead.
"The reality is that the first Coach I contacted was Gasperini," President Maurizio Zamparini told the Processo di Biscardi.
"Fortunately, however, I understood that he is a guy who is too much of a fundamentalist and that is why I changed my mind.
"Sooner or later, he'll understand that he has to change this mentality."
Palermo are now bossed by former youth team Coach Devis Mangia after Zamparini opted to sack Pioli in pre-season.
Mangia won his first Serie A match in charge against Gasperini's 3-4-3 Inter on Sunday evening.
