Galliani admits to Milan fortune

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has admitted that his side were lucky to net a 2-2 draw at Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Rossoneri took the lead in the first minute with Alexandre Pato and equalised in the last with Thiago Silva – but Barcelona proved their class in between.

"We were very lucky," the official stated.

"You could see they had 70 per cent possession, but Barcelona are amazing with the ball at their feet. You just can't get it off them."

Although the European champions twice rippled the net against the San Siro giants, Galliani was happy with how Milan did at the back against a goal machine like Barca.

"The defence did very well, especially Thiago Silva and Alessandro Nesta in the centre," he continued.

"We struggled a lot against Dani Alves, but contrasted him better when Urby Emanuelson came on.

"It's not catenaccio though," he insisted. "It's just that because they keep the ball so well, you are forced to go deeper and can never get out.

"What I do want to point out is their three strikers always come back to help out the midfield and that is why Barcelona dominate. They all work so hard."

Galliani is known for his unique facial expressions, hand gestures and excitable passion while watching games from the stands, but he admits he was on his best behaviour at the Camp Nou.

"I was sat next to the Barcelona President so had to stay still and not move a muscle," he added. "It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life…"
