City manager Roberto Mancini admits Napoli deserved the point in Manchester. “The result was fair.”
Both teams were playing their first ever Champions League games, having not been in the tournament since it changed from the European Cup, and fought their way to a 1-1 draw.
“I think the result was fair, as we played well in the first half, even if we always wanted that extra touch and hesitated,” Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.
“After the break for about 10 minutes we lost our shape and Napoli managed to score. We knew they could be dangerous on the break and left too much space, but Napoli are a quality side.
“We have many players and cannot always use the same ones. Aleksandr Kolarov rested on Sunday and I was about to replace him, as he has broken his nose, but he scored that great goal.
“I am happy with the performance. It was our first in the Champions League and so everyone wanted to get the winner, that was perhaps our biggest mistake.”
