Riccardo Montolivo still has plenty to offer Fiorentina, insists new Viola signing Mattia Cassani.
Montolivo was expected to leave Florence this summer as his refusal to sign a new contract, which expires in 2012, saw him stripped of the club captaincy.
However, Montolivo has remained at the Stadio Artemio Franchi after he rejected a move to Roma and his proposed switch to Milan didn't happen.
"Montolivo is looking in good shape," the right-back noted on Thursday. "He also played quite well recently for Italy too.
"After all of the summer talk, he's done well to keep his head and his heart on just Fiorentina," added the loan capture from Palermo.
"He's a reference point for us all at this club and I hope that he remains to be one of the symbols of this team."
Fiorentina and the player's agent have resumed contract talks in an effort to extend his present agreement.
As it stands, the former Atalanta player could leave on a free transfer next year.
