Riccardo Montolivo has begun contract renewal talks with Fiorentina, but the initial meeting revealed little progress has been made.
Montolivo and his agent are understood to have met with the Viola's owner Andrea Della Valle to hold preliminary talks over the terms of a new deal.
Whilst it is believed the finer points of any contract - including Montolivo's reported desire for a buy-out clause - were not discussed at this meeting, Firenzeviola.net report that the meeting was a 'weak opening' to proceedings.
Montolivo recently expressed his openness to re-start negotiations, having previously rejected several contract offers from the club during the 2010-11 season.
After today's meeting, he and his agent are set to next convene with Della Valle on September 24 for round two. Montolivo's current deal expires next summer.
