On the day he equalled Beppe Bergomi's Inter record, Javier Zanetti feels his team deserved to beat Roma.
“There are regrets, because we had the best scoring opportunities. The draw is a result that doesn't satisfy us,” the captain told Inter Channel.
It was his 756th official match in a Nerazzurri jersey, matching the record set by legendary defender Bergomi. The pair played as teammates for 134 games, including the victorious UEFA Cup Final in 1998.
“Even if we were facing a great team who held possession well, we were never really under pressure. I don't remember many Roma chances.
“We looked for the space, got into the final third and created good opportunities. I think our team took a step forward and this is the path we must stick to. We can still give a lot more.”
Gian Piero Gasperini is still under pressure, having picked up one draw and three defeats between the Italian Super Cup, Serie A and the Champions League.
“We mustn't listen to all the criticism,” assured Zanetti. “Insulting a team that has won everything over the last seven years just because they got two games wrong is ridiculous.”
