Lichtsteiner demands Juve goals

Stephan Lichtsteiner has told his Juventus teammates to be more deadly in front of goal.

The Swiss international netted the club’s first strike of the season against Parma in a 4-1 win, but since then the side have grabbed just five goals in five games.

“We need to make the most of our chances,” stated the right-back. “We’ve yet to score from a set piece and these very situations can be decisive in opening up difficult games like the one we faced in Verona.

“However, I disagree with those who say that we’ve struggled more against smaller sides.

“Putting aside the first half against Catania, we created many opportunities against both Bologna and Chievo and deserved to win both.”

The Old Lady drew 0-0 in Verona last week even if that was enough to maintain top spot in Serie A.

“The only thing missing in Verona was the goal,” added the summer signing from Lazio. “We faced the game with the right spirit, but Chievo also played very well and were defensively well organised.

“Against so-called ‘smaller’ sides it’s always difficult to find a way through, because they often defend with 11 men.”

Juve face Genoa on Saturday evening before potentially problematic encounters against Fiorentina, Inter and Napoli.

“In reality every game counts, but even if we win the next three we still can’t speak about the Scudetto. What we need to do is continue on this path and I’m sure that by doing so we’ll achieve great things.

“Against Genoa we need to stay alert to their strikers, who are strong players, but we’re preparing the game well and I’m confident.”
