Walter Mazzarri insists tonight's defeat against Chievo could “be good for Napoli and I'd make the same decisions.”
The Coach caused controversy by changing seven of his starting XI from the win over Milan, resting his entire trident attack and giving debuts to two defenders.
“I would make the same decisions,” assured Mazzarri after the 1-0 loss. “If Andrea Dossena hadn't been forced to stay back by a family bereavement, I would've rested Christian Maggio as well.
“We need to stop with these public inquests over the players and realise we can rely on them to fight for a place in future.
“Unfortunately, this stadium seems to be cursed for us, as we also lost to Chievo last season. They didn't have a shot on goal, yet they won.
“It's true we didn't create as much as usual, but we had some good moves in the first half and fatigue means we need to rotate the squad. We have such a large group of players for precisely this reason.
“In any case, this defeat could be good for Napoli. It's important we all learn that Italian football is tough and you can lose against the smaller clubs.”
