Devis Mangia has praised his players' reaction to in midweek to beat Cagliari, and also looked to dampen controversy over Josip Ilicic's exclusion.
The Coach was talking after watching his side almost throw a three-goal lead away in the closing stages of their 3-2 home win over the Sardinians. The win is the Rosanero's second of the season, but had followed a weekend defeat at Atalanta.
"True, Cagliari came close to a come-back, but you can not forget the first 80 minutes, during which we deserved to win.
"I was interested to see the reaction after the defeat in Bergamo and at the end, the quality always makes the difference. After an effort like the first half, we can understand suffering a little bit.
Mangia went on to talk about the style of play he is trying to implement in his team, one based on a strong work ethic. The Coach also looked to deflect attention away from Josip Ilicic's exclusion, and the suggestion that it was anything other than tactical.
"There are many people in this new team, we must also work on the continuity of performance and results.
"In this team the people that are involved work. I work with real people who have their head right.
"It's not a problem with this team. But we must understand that in some moments, you have to be good at managing the control of the ball, and work with an even greater intensity.
"Why has [Ilicic] not played? I'm happy with what [Nicolas] Bertolo did, his inclusion is related to the reading of the tactical game. The reason was for the team and not a single person, you dote on a player like Ilicic."
