Javier Zanetti is set to reach another appearance landmark this evening when he plays for Inter against CSKA Moscow.
Il Corriere dello Sport report that the Argentine Nerazzurri captain will make his 143rd appearance in UEFA European competitions if he plays in Tuesday night's game away to CSKA.
This will put him in the top five all-time appearance list for players to have appeared in any of the following UEFA club competitions: European Cup/Champions League, UEFA Cup/Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
It will move him above Ryan Giggs and Edwin van der Sar into fifth place, behind Roberto Carlos on 144, Raul Gonzalez on 152, Clarence Seedorf on 156 and Paolo Maldini on 174.
Zanetti recently set a new appearance record in all competitions for Inter when against Novara he played his 757th game for the Nerazzurri, surpassing Giuseppe Bergomi's previous record tally at the club.
