Davide Ballardini is understood to have turned down an offer to become the new Coach of Bologna.
The tactician was expected to replace Pierpaolo Bisoli on the Dall'Ara bench after the club's struggles so far this term.
Although Bisoli has not yet been officially sacked, the Rossoblu are looking to make a change after collecting just one point from the first 15 on offer.
Ballardini has been contacted by the club, but no agreement could be reached for the former Lazio tactician.
It is being suggested that he was offered a one-year deal, with an option for a second, but he insisted on a fixed two-year agreement. Bologna declined.
Ballardini's withdrawal from the race means that Bologna will have to look elsewhere and there is no shortage of alternatives.
Mario Beretta is an option they are looking at, even if Roberto Donadoni, Gigi De Canio, Bortolo Mutti, Stefano Pioli and Giancarlo Camolese are being linked too.
