Newcastle United's Davide Santon confirms he was “very close to joining Roma” this summer.
The Italian Under-21 international left Inter and sought a more permanent solution after time spent on loan at Cesena.
“There was a moment when I was very close to joining Roma, but it wasn't finalised and in the end I chose England,” said Santon.
“I had no real meetings as such, but I knew Roma director Walter Sabatini wanted me.
“The negotiations with my agent didn't progress, so I went to Newcastle and I am happy with that choice.”
