Zoff predicted Azzurri revival

Dino Zoff was always confident that Cesare Prandelli would revive the fortunes of the Italian national side.

Prandelli took charge of an ageing Azzurri side from Marcello Lippi after a quite disastrous 2010 World Cup campaign.

Now, 15 months later, the side has booked their place at Euro 2012 after dominating their qualification group.

"Prandelli has done an excellent job," Zoff, who bossed Italy at Euro 2000, told Radio Sportiva on Wednesday.

"However, it was hard to believe that the side wouldn't pick themselves up after their horrible World Cup.

"It's true that there are a lot of foreigners playing over here, but the Italian championship always offers good solutions."

Italy conceded just two goals in their group, but they only scored 20 which underlined that they are perhaps missing a centre-forward of top quality.

"Mario Balotelli has notable potential and he could be an added value to this team," continued the 1982 World Cup winner.

"But the need for a powerful striker depends on how the team moves and what the smaller attacking players can offer with their class and speed.

"The important thing is to have attackers in your squad who know were the goal is."
