Cesena captain Giuseppe Colucci could be out for some time after he was diagnosed with a torn meniscus ligament.
The midfielder had sprained his knee during Tuesday's training session, but tests at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome showed it was far worse than previously thought.
The official Cesena website confirmed a lesion to the meniscus ligament in his left knee.
Colucci will undergo surgery in Rome on Friday, but it is not yet clear how long he will be out for.
