Adrian Mutu faces his former club on Sunday and general manager Sandro Mencucci assures “he's part of Fiorentina history.”
The Romanian had a fractious rapport with the Viola hierarchy and was frozen out of the squad in January when pushing for a move to Cesena.
That went through in the summer and Mutu comes face to face with his former teammates in the Sunday lunchtime kick-off, though promised he would not celebrate if he scored.
“Mutu is part of Fiorentina history, so we will always have respect and recognise what he did for the club,” said Mencucci.
“I was pleased to read what he said in his Press conference and we feel it is a realistic reflection of the situation.
“I am happy Mutu is so settled in Cesena and hope he can score many goals, though obviously after this Sunday.
“Fiorentina have great affection towards Mutu.”
