Edy Reja replies to Francesco Totti's jibes ahead of the Rome derby and admits “I owe the Lazio fans.”
The tactician has never beaten Roma in his career and lost all four of his Derby della Capitale games.
“I experience the derby with great intensity. Clearly I owe the Lazio fans and the whole team really wants to give them this great moment of joy,” said the Coach.
“Compared to last season we have more experienced players in the squad like Djibril Cissè and Miroslav Klose. We are growing, as are Roma.
“However, I'd like to point out that in the last few derbies we lost due to incidents. We were always superior to the Giallorossi in terms of overall performance. Maybe we lacked character.
“I have total faith in my squad. There were a few doubts on those who returned from international duty, but I've seen today they are all in good shape.”
That includes Klose, who had been a major doubt for this game after leaving the Germany camp early.
Roma miss Totti, who had joked this week Reja was their “lucky charm” in the derby.
“It's a shame Totti won't be on the field, as he is someone of real class – when he plays, at least...” replied the Coach.
“Beating Roma would be crucial for me on a personal level too. You have to believe in your dreams and we believe in ours.”
