Albertini: 'A deal is close'

The Vice-President of the FIGC Demetrio Albertini claims a deal is close between the Italian Footballers' Association and the League.

The two parties have been at odds for months over a collective bargaining agreement, prompting the Italian Footballers' Association to threaten to strike on two occasions.

However, a round of talks throughout Wednesday resulted in a breakthrough and the latest call for industrial action, which was scheduled to take place this weekend has reportedly been cancelled.

A formal announcement is expected later today confirming the news.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Albertini said: "There is the political desire to close a deal. The FIGC President Giancarlo Abete has discussed it together with the representatives of the two parties.

"They will meet again today to define the final details. But we are very close to an agreement."
