Report: Cesena turn to De Canio

Cesena have reportedly turned attentions to Luigi De Canio after Davide Ballardini rejected the chance to become the club's next Coach.

The Cavallucci Marini find themselves looking for a new Coach after dispensing with the services of Marco Giampaolo immediately after the weekend defeat to Parma.

Without a win all season, the Emilia-Romagna outfit are bottom of the League, already five points away from safety and have scored just one goal in their last six matches.

Il Resto del Carlino understand that former Cagliari, Palermo and Lazio boss Ballardini, who had a spell at Genoa last season, was President Igor Campedelli's first choice.

However, and despite the suggestion that agreeing finances and duration of a contract with Ballardini were straight-forward, the 47-year-old has declined the chance to take the position.

It is now believed that the club have turned their attentions to former Lecce Coach De Canio, who has been out of work since leaving the Via del Mare outfit last summer.

Contact has reportedly already been made between the parties with Campedelli, sporting director Maurizio Marin and technical director Lorenzo Minotti now expected to travel to Roma on Monday evening to meet the Naples-based tactician to finalise an agreement.

Their intention is to replace Giampaolo as quickly as possible. Should De Canio sign on, he could be taking training by Tuesday afternoon and ironically find himself preparing for a debut on the Bianconero bench that would be at home to Lecce.
