Adrian Mutu is the latest striker to be linked with Milan. “Antonio Cassano’s replacement must arrive on loan and be eligible for the Champions League,” said Adriano Galliani.
Cassano will be out for around six months following a mini-stroke and surgery to correct a congenital heart defect.
Among the rumoured candidates to fill in are Fabio Quagliarella of Juventus and now Cesena’s Mutu.
“If a striker does arrive in January, he has to be on loan with an option to buy and preferably be eligible for the Champions League,” explained Vice-President Galliani.
“We’ll see if there are any good opportunities. Last season we signed players who had already taken part in the Champions League and don’t want to repeat that.
“As for buying midfielders, that would be a waste. We have many players who have been ruled out right now due to injury and they will be back.”
