Cesare Prandelli hopes to “make Italy smile” with tonight’s game against Poland during a crisis for the country.
The Peninsula has struggled with floods, a political crisis and the potential collapse of their standing in the Eurozone over the past week.
“If we really will get to meet President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano ahead of Tuesday’s game with Uruguay, then I am certain all the lads will be excited. We are talking about a truly extraordinary man,” said Prandelli.
“Among our objectives in these two friendlies must be to give a few moments of joy to the country in such a difficult moment. We want to make Italy smile again.”
The Azzurri are playing these games because they have already qualified for Euro 2012 with a record-breaking unbeaten campaign.
“It was said before I started this job that the defence would represent a problem, yet we only conceded two goals,” added the Coach.
“As for the strikers, we ought to create more depth and attempt the one-on-one more often.”
