Gianluigi Buffon trusts Italy can recover from losing Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi. “We’ve found Mario Balotelli and Giampaolo Pazzini.”
The Azzurri had used the Cassano-Rossi partnership throughout most of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
However, both are in doubt to recover in time for the tournament next summer, as they are out for six months following Cassano’s heart surgery and Rossi’s knee ligament injury.
“We have lost two key figures like Rossi and Cassano, but we’ve also found two equally important players like Balotelli and Pazzini,” said Buffon after the 2-0 win in Poland.
“They both did very well in this match, quite aside from their goals. Balotelli is starting to become a great player and have a certain international experience.
“Now it’s up to Mario to adapt to the role he is given.”
Buffon kept a clean sheet by saving a late penalty from Jacub Blaszczykowski.
