Italy-Uruguay: The previous ties

Italy will play Uruguay on Tuesday, 21 years after they last beat the South American outfit at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

It was during the 1990 World Cup when Salvatore Schillaci and Aldo Serena grabbed the goals that allowed the Azzurri to reach the quarter-finals of Italia ’90.

Italy last played Uruguay in April 2002, a Milan friendly which ended in a 1-1 draw while Giovanni Trapattoni was in charge.

Juventus ‘keeper Gigi Buffon is the only survivor from the side that night included in Cesare Prandelli’s latest party.

Italy and Uruguay have met on seven occasions in the past. Italy have won two, Uruguay have won two and there have been three draws.

In those encounters Italy and Uruguay have both netted seven goals each.

1928 – Uruguay 3-2 Italy

1970 – Italy 0-0 Uruguay

1980 – Italy 1-0 Uruguay

1981 – Uruguay 2-0 Italy

1989 – Italy 1-1 Uruguay

1990 – Italy 2-0 Uruguay

2002 – Italy 1-1 Uruguay
