Simone Pepe named Uruguay ‘keeper Fernando Muslera as the Man of the Match after Italy’s 1-0 defeat.
Uruguay collected a 1-0 win in Rome, but only after the former Lazio player had made a string of fine saves.
“We had three or four great scoring opportunities,” the Juventus player stated at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Muslera was Uruguay’s best player on the night, which I think says a lot. Italy were the only team playing in the second half…”
Pepe was recalled to the Italy squad this month after a fine start to the campaign and he’s happy with Cesare Prandelli’s new look set-up.
“I saw Italy playing well on television and being on the pitch confirmed it,” said the 2010 World Cup player. “The Coach gives us a sense of calm, but also some important tactical lessons.
“The Coach knows my characteristics and that I give another option to play differently. The important thing is this Italy side plays good football, whether 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2.
“I came off the bench against Poland and did fairly well, but much better in this match.”
