Inter boss Claudio Ranieri believes that a win against Cagliari this weekend could kick-start a Scudetto fight-back.
The Nerazzurri are in 17th place, 13 points behind joint leaders Udinese and Lazio, but the tactician still thinks his side can challenge for the title.
“I believe,” he stated on Friday. “It would be an incredible achievement, but this is a very strange championship.
“If the teams ahead of us maintain their pace then it will be tough, but anything can happen in this Division.
“We’re just looking to net as many points as possible between now and the end of the season.
“If we were a small club then we would be thinking about survival right now, but with our champions we have to believe in the objective of winning the League.”
Inter haven’t been in action for almost three weeks after their Week 11 match at Genoa was postponed and Ranieri respects the Cagliari threat.
“They are a team that run and want to play well,” he added. “It won't be an easy match, but if we put our minds to it we have to beat them.
“Cagliari are very dangerous. Of the nine goals they have scored in total, seven of them were netted away from home.
“We have to play our own game with confidence and determination. That's the only way we are going to get out of this fog.”
The Nerazzurri have a busy week ahead with Tuesday’s trip to Trabzonspor, but the tactician insists his side are just focused on Serie A.
“We want to beat Cagliari,” he added. “The most difficult match is always the next one and the next one is tomorrow.
“And let's not forget that from now on every match is like a Cup Final for us.”
Ranieri does have some defensive problems to deal with though after Lucio joined Douglas Maicon and Yuto Nagatomo in the treatment room.
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going, we'll see,” he continued. “I hope to have Lucio back for Tuesday. Let's hope he can make it.”
